Throughout the 20th century, NMA remained the leader in the quest to ensure equality in medicine and access to medical care. Now in the 21st century, the NMA’s mission is just as imperative and just as relevant as it was 125 years ago. Join us for our 125th anniversary celebration. We are going home to Atlanta, the birthplace of our illustrious organization in 1895. Our Annual Convention and Scientific Assembly will be held Saturday, August 1- Wednesday August 5, 2020. The Continuing Education Program (CME) offers participants 26 medical specialty area (Aerospace Medicine to Women’s Health) of focus and is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education. The Hyatt Regency Atlanta is the headquarters hotel and all CME activities will take place at the Georgia World Congress Center. ?> Greetings from the President Oliver Tate Brooks, M.D. May 18, 2020 Dear NMA Members and Friends, I hope this note finds you continuing to be well during these trying times. The NMA continues to monitor the evolving impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, and we are alarmed by the disproportional impact this public health crisis is having on the African American community. We are very concerned about the safety and well-being of everyone—our community, our patients, as well as our members and their families. With this in mind, we have determined that the planned Annual Convention and Scientific Assembly scheduled for August 1–5, 2020 in Atlanta will now be in an all virtual format. This means there will no longer be an in-person meeting this summer. CME credits will be available just as would be at an in-person Convention. Additional information will follow, but be assured that there will be excellent CME educational content, lively discussion and some surprise events. We will kick off the celebration of our 125th Anniversary which will continue throughout the ensuing year. You won’t want to miss it! In the interim, I hope you have been participating in the NMA COVID-19 webinar series. These educational webinars are demonstrating the power and reach of digital education to not only provide timely information but also to highlight our collaborative work with key stakeholders such as AARP, Jack and Jill of America, and PhRMA. Moments in history, like this one, call for forward thinking and flexibility as we work together to serve our patients, fellow NMA members, and the best interests of the National Medical Association. I am certain the NMA can continue to count on you. I strongly encourage you to plan to participate in our virtual conference and to follow us to stay up to date on the coming details. Additionally, if you have not already done so, please be certain to renew your 2020 membership dues which will support our expanded virtual programming for CME credit, advocacy efforts, JNMA publication, and scholarships for medical students.
